The overarching objective of this ongoing research and educational initiative is to conduct a comprehensive examination of the intricate connections existing between the far-right and radical factions originating from the Western Balkans and their counterparts within the European Union member states. The focus of scrutiny is directed towards organisations emanating from Serbia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Montenegro, North Macedonia, and Kosovo. The significance of this monitoring endeavour is underscored by the discernible uptick in international collaboration observed among these entities in recent times.
In this project, our approach to data collection is varied. Firstly, we are utilizing the extensive information available on social media platforms such as Meta, YouTube, Twitter, and Telegram. These platforms provide a rich source of video content that reveals the complex connections between the groups we are studying.
Secondly, we are conducting interviews with a diverse group of individuals and representatives from relevant organisations. Our interviewees include experts on the far-right in the Western Balkans and experts from the European Union who are connected to Balkan organizations or will be identified during our research. Additionally, we are interviewing representatives from anti-fascist organizations and individuals from the far-right, ensuring we gain a comprehensive understanding of the subject.
Following the research part of the project, the results will be consolidated into a consolidated publication, which will be used during the educational sessions held at universities presenting the results to students and civil society members allowing raise in awareness of the situation as well as educate on how to research these links to allow further knowledge on methodology and identification of these links.
The project is being organized in collaboration with Center for Security Consulting and Friedrich-Ebert-Stiftung Dialogue Southeast Europe.
